These pictures are from past students 7-14 years of age. I’ve initiated two art programs at two different churches along my career path- one in Atlanta and one in Tallahassee. My art lessons focus on how to quickly and accurately create a contour line, how to see objects in negative space, and how to use a wide range of contrast when shading. We discuss light, shadows, value, and how to apply these concepts to geometric shapes, making them three-dimensional. These concepts are applied to the wooden figure and various fruits, in addition to other objects I bring in. Step by step handouts are given from some of the books below, which show a variety of techniques and assignments. Students are encouraged to draw on their own and bring in their work.
